About H.E. Ambassador of Pakistan to USA, Ali Jahangir Siddiqui:
Mr. Ali Jehangir Siddiqui has assumed Office as Ambassador of Pakistan to the United States of America w.e.f. 29 May 2018. He was previously Special Assistant to the Prime Minister from 1st August 2017 with the status of Minister of State.

Career Background:
He served as Chairman of JS Bank, which he founded through the acquisition of American Express Bank Limited’s Pakistan operations in 2006. JS Bank has the presence in 150 cities of Pakistan with over 300 branches and 4000 employees. It has total assets of approximately PKR 400 billion. Mr. Siddiqui founded JS Private Equity Management (JS PE Management) led it to become Pakistan’s largest domestic private equity asset management firm. The firm manages capital for global investors interested in investing into Pakistani businesses. Until 2017 Mr. Siddiqui served as Chairman of JS PE Management. Between 2002 to 2003, he was an Executive Director of JS Investments, a mutual fund management firm regulated by the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan. Prior to moving to Pakistan in 2002, Mr. Siddiqui worked in Hong Kong as a Director with Crosby Capital, an Asian private equity asset management firm that managed over US$ 400 million including funds managed on behalf of the Hong Kong and Korean governments.

Entrepreneurship:
In addition to founding JS Bank, Mr. Siddiqui has built a number of successful businesses in partnership with other entrepreneurs including:
Airblue Limited (a low-cost airline in Pakistan)

Arabian GulfSteel (a steel producer in the United Arab Emirates)
Jura Energy (an upstream energy company in Pakistan)
RAK Ghani Glass (the largest pharmaceutical glass producer in the Middle East)

Philanthropy:
Until his appointment to the government in 2017, Mr. Siddiqui was honorary CEO of the Mahvash and Janhangir Siddiqui Foundation (“MJSF”) that makes grants to the education, healthcare and social enterprise sectors. He has worked in natural disaster zones in Pakistan and has a strong personal commitment to finding new solutions to disaster response. MJSF directly provides emergency relief in humanitarian crises and implements projects in disaster zones in partnership with UN agencies. In the last 14 years, MJSF has disbursed grants of over PKR 1.5 billion.

Public Sector Engagement:
Mr. Siddiqui’s public-sector experience includes:
Former Member of the Privatization Commission.
Former Member of the Private Sector Advisory Board of the Planning Commission.
Former Member of the Sindh Board of Investment.
Former Member of the Community Development Board of the Government of Sindh.

Commitment to Academia:
Mr. Siddiqui has been a guest lecturer at a number of educational institutions including:
National Defence University in Islamabad.
National School of Public Policy in Lahore.
College of William and Mary in Virginia, USA.

Board Experience:
Representing his investments, he has served on the boards of a number of companies in Pakistan including those that are the leading public listed companies in the technology, building materials, reinsurance and port management sectors.

Education:
He received his BA in Economics from Cornell University in New York.

Family:
He is married and has two daughters.

Other:
In 2014, he was honored by the World Economic Forum as a Young Global Leader.
